I went with my gut and I am so glad I did! I love the gradient and it added such a great element of movement to the design. Sometimes a color combination just feels right and changing it feels wrong. This was not easy to do! I think in the future I will need to think out my design more before creating it in EQ8.Īs I was creating it, the colors were also very solidly in my mind and I stuck with it from start to finish. I had to make it a custom block because I played around with the thickness of the frame, the opening in the corners, and the layering. Without the frame, the design didn’t feel as balanced as I felt it should be. Next, I created custom blocks for the frame that goes around and behind the orange peels. Almost immediately, I thought, hey! Wouldn’t it be cool if I somehow made that design into an actual pieced quilt?! And off I went to try to mock it up on my computer. A few months later, Make Modern Magazine put out a call for submissions. I loved the design and tucked the sketch away, thinking that one day I would maybe like to quilt a whole cloth quilt with it.

She won a ribbon for the design and piecing, and I won a ribbon for the free motion quilting. If you go to the Features & Awards section of my website, you may recognize it! It was quilted on Jane B’s glam clam quilt, which she then entered into a modern quilt show. I got the idea for Eternal Moment from a quilting plan I created in the summer of 2018, back when I was longarm quilting for customers. And if you’re not a designer but are just curious about my process, well I hope to make this an interesting read for you, too! Hopefully, this will help a future designer looking to make their ideas into real things :-).

A lot of what I have learned has come from trial & error and doing a lot of research. At least not from what I was able to find when I first started designing last year. I want to talk some more about this process because I don’t think there is a ton of information out there about it. What a cool world we live in where you can have an idea and make it a real and physical thing! I still can’t get over how the flow goes: idea -> design -> quilt. As with each pattern, I feel very strong emotional ties with it. Anyone have any other clues. The Eternal Moment quilt pattern is my third released pattern. The fact that the program ran before updates, but a reset didn't help is a conundrum. I have used this program for years on other devices. Quilt Pro's last thought was "something is keeping the registry from updating".

Ran Compatibility Troubleshooter, Changed to run as admin, Tried with Win 8 Compat, Tried with Windows 7 Compat. Reset the device, reinstall (this should've cleared the updates, right?) Modify/Repair Microsoft Visual C++ (because for some reason that screen keeps popping up when I reinstall the program?) Uninstall - Reinstall, run as admin (when I reinstall, it goes through everything, gives me an option to finish, says program will option from shortcuts.which it obviously wont) I have been in contact with Quilt pro's tech dept. The next day, updates to the OS updates installed, there was a disk error fix (that I thought was unrelated) and since then, the program will not open, I click it, the wheel spins, then nothing. I installed the program the same day I booted the device and worked on the program for hours.
